Peasant Blouses

XCVI Embroidered Mayan Tunic $98

Historically, peasant blouses come from old eastern Europe, in specific, Romania.  Through the years, we have seen the style crop up in many different cultures.  Many traditional outfits for  Mexican women have included peasant blouses, thusly, we see this style entrenched in our Southwestern Culture.

The popularity of the peasant blouse in Western Culture came as a result of the Hippie/Bohemian movement in the 1960’s.  The loose style of the peasant blouse correlated with the ”free-thinking” feeling of this era.

Just as countless other styles in fashion, the Peasant Blouse has resurged as a trend.  The new look, boho-chic, takes on the casual “peasant” look of those bohemian days, but you’ll find a refreshing and slightly more refined look nowadays.

While Peasant Blouses of old may have been worn with a corresponding peasant skirt, today, women are wearing a longer (tunic style) peasant blouse with Leggings, Skinny Jeans or Pants.   Other styles are ripe to wear with capri pants for a casual look.  How to pair your peasant blouse depends on the exact style of the top.  We also need to take your body style into consideration.  We are happy to help you figure out what is the right way to pull off this look!

Tips to beat the heat!

It seems that around this time of year we all start to remember just how hot it gets in our region…hot car seats and blasts of warm wind!

Here are a few ideas on how to dress for the weather but still look great:

  • Wear a jacket or blouse open with a cool shell to allow air-flow next to your torso.
  • Try a skirt or dress as opposed to pants to keep your bottom half cool.
  • If you prefer pants, opt for a cropped version.  There are many styles from casual to chic to choose from!
  • Most importantly, pay attention to fabrics.  Natural fabrics like cotton and linen will breathe better than synthetic fibers; however we also have a really great engineered rayon line (Jams World) that is by far the best fabric we’ve found yet for really hot days!

We can always direct you to these key temperature-friendly items in the store!

About Capris

You’ve heard them be called Pedal Pushers, Capris, Crops and Floods…so what’s the big deal about these short pants??

What are Capris?

Capri pants are a popular fashion trend with many women as they are casual, comfortable, more universally flattering than shorts, cover the knees and create versatile outfits. Capri pants are a nod to fashion icon Audrey Hepburn and 1950s and ’60s all-American vintage styling, accentuating the calves and ankles. This popular pant can be worn in any casual atmosphere, such as lounging at a  poolside bbq or out to dinner.

Will this trend last?

This is a question I get a lot!  Capri pants have endured several trend revivals, proving to be a classic and timeless fashion statement for women.  The other aspect to this is comfort.  We are so hot here and, again, shorts don’t work for everyone.  Capri pants in ANY and EVERY length are here to stay!

How is the best way to wear capris?

Don’t think of capris as a special style that needs to be worn a certain way.  If it’s casual you want, instead of jeans…try jean capris (we recommend the Not Your Daughter’s capris).  If you have a dressier top to wear, instead of black slacks or a skirt, try a dressier capri (we LOVE  the Lauren Vidal Cosy pant for this).

What if I’m uncomfortable with the length?

First of all, definitely try on several pairs because Capris can be anywhere from the knee to the ankle and you want them to flatter your body.  Secondly, just try them!  We have had several converts who couldn’t be convinced until they just went ahead and bought a pair to try!
